Everything is converted through the yearly amount. Twice-a-month and monthly pay are calendar-based (24 and 12 a year). The after-tax figure uses the 2026 IRS withholding method for a single filer paid every two weeks, with no state tax.

Salary and hourly pay, in plain English

Last reviewed October 20, 2026. Conversions are plain arithmetic; the overtime rule is from the US Department of Labor and the after-tax figure from IRS Publication 15-T (2026).

Part time and unpaid time off

The 2,080-hour rule only fits a full-time job with paid time off. Working 25 hours a week at $20.00 an hour is $26,000 a year. And if two weeks of your time off are unpaid, $25.00 an hour over 50 paid weeks is $50,000, not $52,000. Set the hours and paid weeks in the calculator to match your job.

Overtime

Covered non-exempt employees must be paid at least one and a half times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek, under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The calculator shows your time-and-a-half rate; for a full overtime paycheck, use the overtime pay calculator.

To see what you keep after taxes, the paycheck calculator works out take-home pay from a salary, and the hourly paycheck calculator does the same from an hourly rate and hours.

Salary to hourly FAQ

How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the yearly salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. Full time is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour.
How do I convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary?
Multiply the hourly wage by your paid hours a year. At 40 hours a week, $25.00 an hour is $25.00 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year.
How many work hours are in a year?
A full-time year of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. If some of your time off is unpaid, use the number of weeks you are actually paid for.
Is $20 an hour good?
At 40 hours a week it is $41,600 a year before taxes, or about $3,466.67 a month. Use the paycheck calculator to see what you would take home after taxes.
What is my overtime rate?
Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, covered non-exempt employees get at least one and a half times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. At $25.00 an hour, that is $37.50.
Are these numbers before or after tax?
Before tax, except the "after federal taxes, per hour" figure, which subtracts 2026 federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare for a single filer paid every two weeks with no state tax.
Why are twice-a-month and every-two-weeks pay different?
Twice a month is 24 paychecks a year; every two weeks is 26. On $60,000 that is $2,500.00 versus $2,307.69 a paycheck.
